Well, another sophomore Heisman winner has joined the pantheon. I like Mark Ingram, he runs hard, seemingly plays the game the right way, and has done a lot for the Crimson Tide football team. I do have to say though, I really would have liked to see Tebow win again. Archie Griffin needs some company and nobody since, or in the future, has had, or will have as good a chance as Tim Tebow at winning two Heisman Trophies.
You see, the Heisman isn't really supposed to be about the nations best college football player, it is supposed to be awarded to the most outstanding player who helps his team the most. Call me old fashioned but I just feel the media has turned the Heisman Trophy in to something other than what it is supposed to represent. To all those media personnel out there who actually have a Heisman vote, the question you need to ask yourself is this, where would each of the Heisman contenders respective teams be without them?
My conclusion is this, would the Florida Gators actually be the Florida Gators without Tim Tebow? I mean Tebow simply goes down as one of the greatest college football players of all time, right along the likes of the old school Notre Dame, Army, and Navy legends like Roger Staubach and the four horsemen.
Now you say, well then what about Suh and Toby Gerhart? Let me ask you this, would Stanford or Nebraska have lost more than four games without either of their finalists? Most likely not. Colt McCoy and Texas, they may have lost a game without McCoy, but the athleticism is just rampant at Texas.
So all in all, Ingram is a great choice, he seems like a great kid who will fit in along side all the other winners you saw on stage and will hopefully represent the honor in a wonderful fashion. I just think Tebow stands for everything that is right in college football and this world, leading me to ask myself this, where would college football and the University of Florida be without Tim Tebow? Maybe in exactly in the same place, but one thing is for certain, in a day where every program has at least one convicted felon on the roster, Tim Tebow, along with his famous speech placard on the U of F campus has brought back a certain amount of the glory days of old where a few special players can become immortalized in the annals of history.
